Regulations of the badge “Trail of the Wooden Churches of Pałuki” (Szlakiem Pałuckich Kościołów Drewnianych)

IGeneral provisions

1. The badge “Trail of the Wooden Churches of Pałuki” was established by the Board of the PTTK Pałuki Branch in Żnin in order to:
   • promote Pałuki,
   • spread knowledge of the unique monuments of wooden sacred architecture,
   • encourage tourists to discover the beauty of the landscape and the historical past of the region.
2. The badge “Trail of the Wooden Churches of Pałuki” is a single-level badge.

IIConditions for earning the badge

1. The badge may be earned by any tourist during individual or group trips.
2. The badge is earned by visiting specified sites of sacred art.
3. To obtain the badge, 12 of the 15 sites listed in the annex to the regulations must be visited.
4. There is no time limit for earning the badge.

IIIRules of confirmation

1. The basis for applying for the badge is a qualified tourism record book (OTP, KOT, MOT, TM, TOK, etc.) or a self-made journal (kronika), which must contain the date of the visit to the site together with confirmation of the stay in the given locality. Confirmations may also be given by qualified tourism leaders (przodownicy turystyki kwalifikowanej), PTTK guides, SKKT supervisors and domestic tour leaders.

IVRules for awarding the badge

1. Once the requirements of the regulations have been met, the record book or journal is submitted to the verification panel of the Board of the PTTK Pałuki Branch in Żnin.

VFinal provisions

1. The badge is subject to a charge for everyone.
2. The interpretation of these regulations rests with the Board of the PTTK Pałuki Branch in Żnin.
3. The badge regulations were adopted by the Board of the PTTK Pałuki Branch in Żnin by resolution no. 07/2001 of 27.08.2001 and entered into force on the date the resolution was passed.

↻The trail - a loop through all the churches

The badge is called “Trail of the Wooden Churches of Pałuki”, but there is no waymarked trail of that name on the ground - the churches can be visited in any order. To make planning easier, we have plotted the shortest loop from Żnin through all 15 sites. By bike it is about 249 km on quiet roads, by car about 264 km. The terrain is flat - the total ascent over the whole loop is just under 500 m.

By bike we suggest four stages of 40-70 km each. Remember that 12 of the 15 churches are enough for the badge, so you can shorten the route and spread the visits over several seasons.

The route was plotted automatically from OpenStreetMap data (touring bike profile). Before you set off, check that the unpaved roads are passable and check the opening hours of the churches - most are open only around Mass times or by arrangement with the parish.
